As the country celebrates the initially-at any time federally identified Juneteenth getaway, Google (GOOG, GOOGL) has introduced a $50 million unrestricted grant to 10 traditionally Black schools and universities (HBCUs). The grant signifies the tech giant’s most significant commitment to date for HBCUs and builds on Google’s Pathways to Tech initiative, which is part of the company’s racial fairness initiative.
The 10 HBCUs acquiring cash include things like Claflin College (SC), Clark Atlanta College (GA), Florida A&M College (FL), Howard University (DC), Morgan State University (MD), NC A&T Point out College (NC), Prairie Watch A&M University (TX), Spelman College or university (GA), Tuskegee College (AL), and Xavier University (LA).
“The historic nature of the grant is that it is unrestricted. So it really values and supports the presidents of these establishments to make the financial investment, to assist the university and the college students in the way that they deem most ideal,” claims Google’s Main Variety Officer Melonie Parker, who is an HBCU graduate herself. She tells Yahoo Finance that the initiative is element of Google’s greater initiatives to devote in tech field talent.
“I’m a first-era faculty-very pleased HBCU alum from Hampton University. “What we’re listening to from our business owners is the difference that it is manufactured in the way that they’re able to support their organization.
